SomeBody Needs Rest

Working hard makes a body tired

but so does stress!

My son is living with me, and that's not easy.

He's a grown man of 34, but he's also a "kid"

in every sense of the word when it comes to

"adulting".   For the first month, I didn't charge

him rent because his accounts were hacked

and he needed a little breathing room to get

caught up again.  But he's got creditors knocking

on doors, and needs to step up his game with a

plan for his future -- namely, making sure he gets

his credit score up so he can (at some point!)

rent his own apt again!  I let time slide, to see

if he would get things taken care of .....  lol

Today, we sat down and made a payment schedule

through his bank so that bills are paid first, THEN

he has his spending money.

Yep, I'm all about the *tough love* , always have been.

From Old to New

An optimist

stays up til midnight

to see the new year in.

A pessimist

stays up til midnight

to make sure the old year leaves.

- Bill Vaughn

... and a retail worker

goes to bed on time

because retail never stops!!

hahaha

Thoughts on a new year;

and on the year that has passed.

It's been a rough ride this year.

My cousin died; a good friend

committed suicide.

I'm still alone.

and even though that's my choice,

there are some days that it's

not always .... enjoyable.

Every "diet" that I started

ended before I made any progress.

With each new year, we're supposed

to learn from our mistakes and

make the new year even better.

So that's my goal.

To eat healthier, to be healthier

to get regular exercise

and to take more photos.

Happy New Year, my friend!

The End of the Day

At the end of the day,  tell yourself gently:

"I love you, you did the best you could today

and even if you didn't accomplish all you had planned,

I love you anyway."

Sometimes I get so busy

and so caught up

in the junk and the everyday stuff

that I forget to appreciate

all that I did today.

Instead, there are nights when

I lay in bed, thinking about all the

things that *didn't* get done.

Tonight, I'm happy with all that I did!

and tomorrow's another day.

Get Ready ....

I don't understand why people

have to "get ready" for bed --

I'm always ready for bed!

A typical Monday

means a long day

and extra busy at work.

When I get home

all I want to do is

collapse into bed!

A quick hello to Sadie,

a simple, filling meal,

a cooling shower

and yep, I'm ready for bed!!

Tuckered

Ohh.  Emm.  Gee.  All tuckered out.

Hello, and yes, it's about time I got

something posted!  It's been a really rough

two+ weeks.  So many changes with my

work status.  They changed my hours.

For 8 years, I've worked the 6-3pm shift.

They moved me to 7-4pm.

It's only an hour.  But it's making a huge

change in my life!  And I'm having a hard time

keeping up.  Literally up!  I'm ready for sleep by

7pm - I now force myself to stay awake until 8:30

so that I'm not awake at 4am, pacing floors.  lol

     ~~~~~>  It's hell getting old!  <~~~~~
My toe/foot is healing nicely, but taking it's sweet time.
With the swelling down, I can get into a shoe without
much discomfort, and while I hobble just a bit if I've
been sitting down for a while, once I get moving,
I'm good to go!
Thanks for thinking of me and stopping by!
Some Days
Some days, she has no idea how she'll do it
But every single day it still gets done
Some days, life seems like more struggle
than it should be.  At my age, shouldn't
these be "golden years"??
Ahh well.  I'm busy and I just keep on going
Some days I come home feeling like I was
the Energizer Bunny, running without stopping.
I tell myself "this too shall pass" ...
Hello, friend, and thanks for checking on me!
Un-Wind
Color?   or Black and White?
Lately, all I've been is tired.
Bone tired.  Mentally tired.  Just plain tired.
And if you Google it, there are all kinds of "helps"
and reasons and excuses about being tired.
But when life becomes just a little bit too much
we all get tired!
It's challenging to have things constantly
bombarding us, changing up our plans for
the day, making us shift gears in the middle
of the racetrack.  I'm not only dealing with
the day to day things that need to be taken care of,
but also the "what ifs" and "whens" for the things that
will happen in the future.  Taking care of Mom is my
priority - I'm sure that's what Dad would want.
The rest of things are secondary.
I've a list of stuff that needs to be taken care of when
I visit Mom - check book signature card, banking and
medical information written down so I can deal with as
much as possible long distance, if need be.  And a list of
questions that need to be answered re:  their trust.  My sister
takes care of all that for Mom because she lives nearby.
But that won't always be the case ..... :/
And it will be my job to step up.
And I like to have answers to questions before I have to .....
thank goodness there's a weekend coming up, a chance to unwind!
if only for a few hours
If the Boot Fits
Tis the day to say
"Good bye" to 2016.
A whole new year
means a new beginning
for many
and lots of resolutions!
Are you the type to make
resolutions for new years?
And do you keep it?
It is always with good intentions that they're made, IMO,
but even me, I don't keep them long.  Probably because I
make unrealistic resolutions -- "this year I'll lose 50 pounds"
Maybe a resolution should be less goal oriented and more happiness oriented.
I saw one person who's resolution is very simply to "Smile More".
Maybe that's the key -- a little resolution that makes us happier!
In the meantime, I heard a song on the radio and thought to make
a sort of pic out of the lyrics:
Diamonds in the sky lighting up those eyes
You're the kind of fine that I can't deny
It gets me high
Cross my heart, hope to die
Pick a star make a wish
Yeah, you can be my all night
Dancing in the headlights
Fairytale good as it gets
If the boot fits
Happy New Year!
Throwbacks
A throwback from Nov 2012...
(because I can't post without a pic!)
Another Monday, and I'm tuckered as all get out.
I took off Thursday morning for a long drive to
Calif to see my mom.  A wrong turn, a roadside fire,
an accident, smelly cows ..... What's normally an
11 hour drive took 13.5 hours!
Always SO good to see family - even though it was
too short a visit.  I turned around and headed home
on Sunday ....  A major sporting event let out right as
I was cruising into town, add three separate accidents
and numerous extra bathroom stops (ugh - eating
foods that are different from the norm really get to me
now that I'm in my "golden years"...)  14 hours to get home.
It took a huge effort to haul my butt back into the car
to head to work this morning - where I found that not
much of my work that needs doing every day was done.
Which meant I was super busy all day.  Thank goodness,
or it would have been easy to fall into a nap  :)
Who's ready for the Holidays?
Seems like once one BigBox store stayed open on
Thanksgiving, now everyone is open as well.
Not only open, but starting their special deals for Friday
on that Thursday as well.  Lucky me, I'll be working
the 3-midnight shift.  Wonder how that will work,
considering my normal hours for sleep are 8-4am.
Hmmmm.
Happy with Me!
Crowds.
Noise.
People.
These are the stresses, the triggers,
that drain me by the end of the day.
Go Shopping?  Go to a party?
Image result for quotes about "be yourself"
Those aren't things that bring me a lot
of joy or happiness.  Sure, I've done my
share of both,   But knowing now that I'm
a sensitive person, in an empath sort of way,
that looking back at the hours I would spend
at the mall - I was never in the center of things.
Parties?   You'd have labeled me a wallflower
back in the day.  And even just wall-sitting, I'd
go home exhausted, without knowing why.
It was easier not to go at all.
Thankfully as I get older, I don't go to parties,
or hang out at the mall, just to please a friend.
I go when I need to, or want to.  And the rest
of the time, I don't care if people label me "odd"
(or any other adjective) -- I'm happy being myself!
Sports, Anyone?
The Blue and Gold
are my way of rooting for the
Golden State Warriors
in tonight's game against
the Cleveland Cav's.
I'm all tucked up in bed and
ready to watch a good game!
I enjoy sports, but don't get to watch
them often as I refuse to pay for
Cable TV.  My only splurge in
that direction is Netflix.  hehehe
Tuckered Out
Image result for quotes about bedtime
Some days,
that's all I need!
I'm back at the gym
and starting a few
home improvement
projects.
My son moved out,
and I'm cleaning,
painting,
and re-decorating
his room into more
of a guest room.
His "man cave" is no more.
Instead of grey, the walls
are a soft hint of blue
called "Quiet Rain".
Every night,
I fall into bed
tuckered out!
Sleepy Time
It's at night, when perhaps we should be dreaming,
that the mind is most clear,
that we are most able to hold all our life in the palm of our skull.
- Brian W. Aldiss
Have you ever noticed that as you lay there
in your bed, you have all these tremendous
thoughts, answers to questions, solutions to
problems?  Well, there, and of course, in the
shower, is where all great thoughts are born!
But how to retain them?
I know there are mornings when I wake up
and wish that I could remember all that
I'd thought up the night before!
Sweet Dreams!
Silence
“Silence, I discover,
is something you can actually hear.”
― Haruki Murakami,
Kafka on the Shore
I am a big fan of silence.
Have you ever noticed how often the
heater or AC runs and we don't hear it?
We've learned to tune so many things
out ... what other sounds are we missing?
When I walk in my local park, one of
my fav places to stop is near a stand of
cottonwood trees.  The breeze whistles
through the leaves, the sound is golden!
I think our minds need a rest from all
of the noise that constantly bombards us.
Are we fully in any moment when there
is so much noise around us?
I challenge you to turn everything off --
even if its only for 10 minutes --
and hear what you've been missing !
#TBT 2013
#TBT - This throwback is from May 1, 2013.
Work tends to be intense in April and May,
so this is a natural occurrence in the evening.
Sometimes when i get so focused on my job
working many days, or long hours, or both,
there doesn't seem to be room in my brain
or in my thoughts for much else.
Today made the 20th day in a row that i had
to get up to my alarm at 4:30am, and i can
honestly say that curling up and sleeping
sounds just perfect!
(As always, Sadie's gotta be right in there!)
i'm looking forward to an entire weekend off -
what are your plans?
On Being Tired
“I'm smiled out, talked out, quipped out,
socialized so far from any being,
I need the weight of mortal silences to get realized back into myself.”
― John Ciardi
in other words, just plain tired.
I'd say "very tired" but that's
redundant, and lazy.  So maybe
exhausted is the word.
I've been working every day
for days on end now.
Only four more days and
it's a weekend for me.
Hoo Rah!
The weather matched my mood
today, we had layer over layer of
clouds - and a few showers as well.
I was born during a midwestern
summer thunderstorm and I have
always liked shower-y weather,
especially storms.
I grabbed my "blankie" and curled
up in a chair on the back patio,
watching the clouds skate past,
feeling the wind rushing around me,
and smelling the damp earth as
rain fell.  It was wonderful!
Chillin' It
i bet
there's a chance
we can get
sho'nuff tangled up
and laid back 'n lazy
long as i'm rockin' with you
you know i'm cool with
just chillin' it !
Selfies
Whenever I've been out of town,
the weekend after I return,
I get a lot of this:
Sadie at my feet
at every turn.
Like a 4 year old
who can't stop asking questions
Sadie seems to ask,
"You're not leaving me again, are you ?"
Not feeling very inspired lately
when it comes to selfies ....
and I fear this is turning into
"just another nudie blog"
and there's plenty of that.
lots of introspection lately, so I'll leave
you with the following thought:
