Another Saturday

I spent the last few days

dealing with AC issues

that are all fixed now,

thankfully!

But I found as I was

snapping pix this week

that my battery is dead.

And now I cannot find

my charger.

UGGHHH.

Birthdays

This has been one heck of a birthday.
I live in the Valley of the Sun
where it was 114 degrees today.
And my AC quit.

Actually, it had quit 2 days before.
I called the company I use, they sent out
a tech at 10:45pm -- it was still 106 degrees
at that time -- and I'm still chuckling over
that one.  She walks in, looks at the thermostat
and lifts the cover.  Then she lifted a second cover
that I'd never noticed before and she asks
"When's the battery been changed?"
I said "What battery?"

Turns out the thermostat that is hanging on
the wall by the light switch, and is wired into
the wall is NOT powered by electricity but
two double A batteries.   In the six years I've
been in the house, I had no idea!  Boy did I
feel dumb!  lol   She charged me $39.95
for an after-hours service call.  lol

However.  That wasn't my only problem because
Thursday it wasn't working again.  I called the
company and they couldn't send anyone until
midnight.  Ugh.  So Sadie and I packed a quick
bag, and headed to the local motel for some
blessed AC and a good night's sleep.

The repairman was out today and replaced
a blower fan.  It's working awesome now!

I think this is my most expensive birthday ever!!

Invisibility

I often wonder, sometimes marvel,
at the way we have become the persons
we are, each of us.
What influences in younger years
made us into who we are?

I've been thinking on this a lot lately,
wondering why I'm the way I am
when it comes to work.  Not my job, per se,
but more 'doing things' rather than spending
time with people.

I like being alone.    Most of the time.
Because being around people isn't easy for me.
As I get older, it's becoming even more that way.
So I'm alone a lot.
(Unless of course, you count Sadie!)

But what part of my upbringing
brought me to this point?
Or was it something in my later years,
perhaps something to do with my divorces?

All the wondering and pondering
isn't going to change anything.
So I plod along, as most of us do.

Invisible

Do you ever feel invisible?

Lately, I feel that way.

More than I have in the past.

Women over 50 often feel this way.

They no longer get looks from men

like they did when they were 20.  

Or even 30.  Or 40.

Society embraces the youthful,

clear skinned, smiling women who

look as if they don't have a care in the world.

But I have cares, pains, and scars.  

I have lived a full, busy, productive,

beautiful life.   It's my turn again

to not have a care in the world. 

If only it were that easy.

Rise

There's a country song with lyrics that

describe how I was raised, how I see life.

and while it's been a good attitude, 

it's not very well balanced in me:

Deep down, I'm just a country girl,
born in the wrong decade,
and in the wrong part of the states.

I tried moving, living a more country life
but .... it wasn't something I could do on my own.
To be successful, you need a full-on partner
who thinks the way you do.

I've always told folks
"I'm not your normal, average woman"
Never have been, never will be.
And at my age, I don't think things are
going to change, so I just keep doing.

I was born during a summer thunderstorm

and I have always liked the wind.

There's just something about the

movement of air, just because.

So I tried to run out and catch some

breeze with my scarf......

Sometimes the ideas in my mind

aren't what appear when I want it to.
