Garter belts were designed in the 1920s as an alternative to uncomfortable and restricting corsets.  Women could just slip into a belt and attach their nylons directly to it, instead of to a corset or girdle. This was important because during the 1920's, large numbers of women abandoned the confining corsets; thus was born the flapper, who scandalized the previously staid fashion scene.  The glamour of stockings also evokes the 1940s and 50s and the golden age of sensual Hollywood femme fatales.

Since the early 1960s, when men's magazines featured images of women in underwear, they have acquired an erotic element.  Why does the slightest glimpse of a lacy stocking top, a taut suspender or a naked thigh above the stocking turn men mad with desire?  What is it about suspender belts, garter belts and their intoxicating effect on males?  I think it's all about contrasts. Black stocking against white thigh. Even long black gloves can be a male turn on when covering a white arm.

Stockings and garter belts can play roles in erotic fantasy.  Some women will include garter belts as part of a sexual fetish costume. They are usually made of lace or other silky material. They are considered to be part of lingerie and they come in variety of styles and colors. Generally speaking, if the desired effect is achieved, they don’t stay on too long.  Even though panty hose and tights have taken the place of garter belts and stockings, garter belts continue to be worn. They are considered a reflection of their enduring role in erotic fantasy.  For women who like dressing seductively for their partners, garter belts have a lasting place in modern history.

Every now and then, you can catch a glimpse of my dragonfly tattoo.

This was my gift to myself for my 50th Birthday.   I thought long and hard about getting a tat, as this would be permanent, and us females tend to associate things with an emotion, or a person, and I wanted one that was "just me".  I wavered back and forth for a long time before I decided on it.

When I moved here to the Valley of the Sun, I started learning about Animal Totems and what they mean, as part of the Native Indian culture that's prevalent around here.  And Dragonfly is one of them.

*The dragonfly has a beautiful, jewel-like coloring. The bright colors take time to develop, reflecting the idea that with maturity our own true colors come forth.
*Dragonflies remind us that we are light and can reflect the light in powerful ways if we choose to do so. Life is never quite the way it appears, but is always filled with light and color.
*Dragonflies are also creatures of the water, and any creature whose habitat is in, or around water carries symbolism relative to the subconscious, or "dreaming" mind and thoughts.
*Dragonflies carry messages that deal with deeper thought - and they ask that we pay attention to our deeper thoughts and desires.

Seek out habits to change.

What made me focus on Dragonfly?  It was an early Sunday morning walk around a lake at a local park; the sun was already warm on my skin, and I was pondering things that weren't going the way I hoped.  I caught a glimpse of a dragonfly, and as I walked, zipping around as they do, this one followed with me half way around the lake.  Within a short time, things had turned, and I was able to buy a house. Life can work out funny sometimes.  Because of a dragonfly?  Maybe not, but it's nice to believe there are things that cannot be explained. :)

Courage
